Intense Pulsed Light Therapy for Dry Eye

IPL (Intense Pulsated Light) therapy is performed using a high-intensity light source. Though this technology has a wide variety of applications, it is typically used to help treat dry eye caused by Meibomian Gland Dysfunction.

How Does IPL Work?

Recent studies have found that IPL is a highly effective way to treat Meibomian Gland Dysfunction, and can significantly reduce dry eye symptoms. MGD occurs when our meibomian glands become clogged. These glands (which are found in our eyelids) are responsible for secreting the oily component tears need to keep them from evaporating too quickly.

When our meibomian glands become blocked it leads to dry eyes. IPL therapy can open clogged glands, allowing them to function normally again, relieving dry eye symptoms.
